I’ve been consuming content again, and earlier this week I finished the movie “28 Years Later”, and the Japanese Netflix series “Glass Heart”, so I thought I’d write a quick review of each one.

28 Years Later

This is the 3rd installment of the zombie franchise directed by Danny Boyle. The first two movies being 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. I’m a big fan of zombie movies in general, and really enjoyed the first two movies in this series, so I was excited for this one as well. Unfortunately, I have to say 28 Years Later was by far the worst of the three, and you aren’t missing out on anything if you decide to skip it.

I still remember watching the 2nd film in theaters and thinking the first twenty minutes of that movie was maybe the best 20 minutes of any zombie movie ever. Unfortunately, this movie doesn’t come close to bringing that type of intensity. The characters are poorly developed, and there isn’t enough action to make up for the somewhat boring story. Danny Boyle usually will have at least a couple of scenes that make his movies worth watching, but can’t say it was true of this movie. Overall, I give it a 5/10. Something I didn’t need to watch but not so bad that I didn’t finish it.

Glass Heart

Glass Heart is a 10 episode series about a Japanese rock band centered around a “musical genius” by the name of Naoki Fujitani. The opening scene managed to hook me and I could tell right away it would be a good show. With each episode running about 40 minutes long, it’s a relatively quick watch and kind of exactly what I was looking for. Something light, and entertaining, with a feel good vibe. If you like Japan, rock music, and quality acting, I definitely recommend.

The main characters were all wonderfully cast and the music was surprisingly good. I even looked up whether the cast members were actual musicians, but it turns out they are just really talented actors. For what it’s worth, by the end of the series it made me really want to go to a rock concert while reminding me of the power of music and how moving it can be. Overall, I give it a 7/10. Not among the greatest shows I’ve ever watched, but had enough going for it that I’m glad I did.
